Carer Assessment Kensington Medical Centre Belfast

Support for Carers in Belfast – Apply for a Carer’s Assessment

At Kensington Medical Centre Belfast, we understand that caring for someone you love can be incredibly rewarding — but also physically, emotionally and financially challenging.

If you’re a registered carer, a patient who may soon become a carer, or a family member providing regular support, you may be entitled to help from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

One of the best ways to get the support you deserve is by applying for a Carer’s Assessment.

What Is a Carer’s Assessment?

A Carer’s Assessment gives you the opportunity to talk about how your caring responsibilities affect your life. The Belfast Trust will listen to your needs and work with you to identify services that can support you.

You do not need to be claiming Carer’s Allowance or live with the person you care for — it’s for anyone providing unpaid care to a relative, friend or neighbour due to illness, disability, mental health issues, or ageing.

What Support Can You Receive?

Applying for a Carer’s Assessment can open the door to a wide range of support:

1. Respite Care
• Short-term breaks so you can rest and recharge
• Day centres or temporary residential care for the person you support

2. Financial Help
• Advice on Carer’s Allowance, benefits and grants
• Help managing finances and accessing local schemes

3. Emotional Support
• Access to counselling or mental health services
• Peer support and carer groups in Belfast

4. Support at Work
• Help understanding your employment rights as a carer
• Flexible working advice

5. Local Services & Signposting
• Access to trusted community resources
• Support with transport, home aids or social care navigation
